Welcome to my blog. I am a GenXer. One of my bucket list items is to get my PhD and I am in the process of that. I have spent the last years as a system/devops engineer. I am now upskilling myself towards a data science artificial intelligence path. Please stay tuned for more musings and such as i track my progress.
About Me
Just a nerd making his way in the world
I consider myself a renaissance guy. I am married to my amazing wife for over five years. We live on a small gentleman’s farm on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. We keep chickens, goats, three dogs, and one cat. We expect to add beekeeping to our list of activities later this spring when the weather gets warm enough for me to relocate two hives.
I am an IT guy by day…
I have spent the better part of the last 25 years working in information technology for a living as a systems and devops engineer with primarily a Linux and network focus. The last few years have seen me move into more of a devops role where I have done much more automation using Ansible, shell, Terraform, and Python. I am fascinated with the uses of artificial intelligence and data science and have gone back to school. I currently am a student at Eastern University studying for a second masters degree, this one in data science. I recently was accepted into a PhD program in Applied Computer Science at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore where I expect to begin studying shortly.
Why this blog?
I started blogging for two main reasons. One my writing has recently gotten atrocious. I have gotten very lazy with my writing between poor grammar, case inconsistencies, lack of proof reading, and an overall disjointed flow of ideas.
The second reason I started writing was as a PhD student, writing is a lifeblood for my academic success. Between having to relearn study skills, and having to publish research. I need to up my writing skills.
Hobbies
My hobbies include
- Home repair, the wife and i have an 1960’s rancher we are restoruing to all of its MCM glory.
- Technology- currently studying data science, programming and IOT devices.
- Gardening
- Fishing and Hunting
- Welding is a new found hobby as well.
